It’s officially apple season — one of my favorite times of year! 🍎 Following last week’s Apple Cider Mimosas, I’m keeping the apple love going with more delicious recipes featuring this versatile fruit. Whether it’s my warm Skillet Apples, Apple “Pie” Overnight Oats, or classic Apple Crumble, these recipes celebrate the best of the season — simple, wholesome, and full of fall flavor. And this week’s treat? A stunning yet easy Puff Pastry Apple Tart that’s sure to impress!
Is there any truth to the saying ‘an apple a day keeps the doctor away’? Apples are packed with nutrients and antioxidants that may support overall health — including the heart, brain, and digestive system — and even help lower the risk of diabetes and certain cancers. Their anti-inflammatory polyphenols and fiber promote a healthy gut microbiome, while also supporting heart health, blood sugar balance, and weight management.

Ingredients: Puff Pastry Apple Tart
- Puff Pastry: The buttery, flaky base that bakes up golden and crisp — the perfect canvas for the apples.
- Apples: Any apple that you’d use to make an apple pie would work well here. I opted for an apple that tastes sweeter than others to help me cut back on total added sugar. If using a more tart-flavored apple, more sugar may be needed.
- Brown Sugar: Using brown sugar vs granulated sugar helps create a more caramel-like flavor that enhances the apples’ flavor.
- Lemon Juice: a splash of brightness that balances the sweetness and prevents the apples from browning too!
- Cinnamon: Keeping it simple and using just cinnamon here, but a little nutmeg and cardamom would also bring that classic fall flavor!
- Dulce de leche: You can use just a sprinkle of powdered sugar, a dollop of vanilla ice cream, or a drizzle of this dulce de leche. A decadent finishing touch to each bite!

How To Make Puff Pastry Apple Tart
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper (or a silpat).
- Prepare the puff pastry: Make sure it is fully thawed first. Place the puff pastry (1 sheet) onto the baking pans.
- Prepare the apples: Thinly slice the apples (no need to peel). In a medium bowl, toss the slices with lemon juice, brown sugar, and cinnamon until evenly coated.
- Assemble the tart: Arrange the apple slices in a straight line on the pastry rectangles, slightly overlapping as you go.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and the apples are tender.
- Remove from the pan immediately and place on a serving platter.
- Add the finishing touch: serve with warm dulce de leche (just until pourable), then drizzle over the tart before serving. You can also serve plain, with whipped cream, or a sprinkling of powdered sugar.

Tips & Tricks
- Keep the puff pastry cold: Cold pastry puffs up best! If it gets too soft while assembling, pop it in the fridge for a few minutes before baking.
- Slice the apples evenly: Thin, uniform slices ensure even cooking and a beautiful presentation once baked.
- Don’t overload the tart: Less is more — too many apples can weigh down the pastry and prevent it from puffing properly.
- Use firm apples: Varieties like Honeycrisp, Pink Lady, or Granny Smith hold their shape and provide a nice balance of sweetness and tartness.
- Score the border: Lightly score around the edges before baking to help the crust rise beautifully and create a natural frame for the apples.
- Warm the dulce de leche: Gently heat it before drizzling so it spreads easily and gives that smooth, glossy finish.
- Serve it fresh: Puff pastry is at its best shortly after baking — crisp, buttery, and absolutely irresistible!
