This Easy Strawberry Sauce has just two ingredients—fresh or frozen strawberries and sugar! It’s perfect for topping cheesecake, ice cream, yogurt, and other desserts!

Strawberry season is coming to an end here in Miami. However, it’s just getting started in other parts of the country! What better way to highlight a seasonal food and make it the star of the recipe! I recently went to a u-pick farm here in Miami, and the berries never tasted better (and how fresh berries should taste!) SO sweet and delicious! Enter my inspiration for this Easy Strawberry Sauce.

As a dietitian, I don’t often highlight any one particular food. However, it is worth mentioning that research shows that eating eight strawberries a day may have potential health benefits, including improving heart and brain health, reducing the risk of certain cancers, and aiding in the management of type 2 diabetes. Strawberries are high in vitamin C and contain fiber, folate, and potassium! Even though Florida’s growing season is only from November to late March, strawberries grow year-round in California due to the sunny days and cool nights. Even if you don’t have fresh strawberries available, freeze some of your fresh strawberries when they’re at their sweetest! Your future self will thank you!

Ingredients: Easy Strawberry Sauce

  • Strawberries: I make this sauce during the winter months here in Florida since strawberries are in season. However, in the summer months, I use frozen berries or berries from California if they’re super sweet. Frozen strawberries are a great option and are easy to keep in the freezer, so you always have them on hand. They are frozen at their peak freshness and sweetness. I’ve also made this sauce using raspberries and blueberries.
  • Sugar: If I’m using fresh berries that are as sweet as can be, no sugar is needed. If the berries aren’t the sweetest (taste them to see), start with just one tablespoon of sugar and add more as needed. This sauce is meant to be a little tart and not overly sweet. Additionally, even though I serve this with dessert, I also serve it with yogurt, and we want to use as little added sugar as possible!

How To Make Easy Strawberry Sauce

  1. Add the strawberries and sugar (if using) to a saucepan and heat over medium-high heat, then bring to a boil.
  2. Mash using the back of a spoon or a masher, and break apart the strawberries to release their juices. Once it boils, turn off the heat.
  3. Taste and adjust, adding more sugar if needed.
  4. Eat and enjoy!
  5. Extra step: Use an immersion blender to puree the strawberries until they are completely smooth. You do not have to blend them if you prefer a chunkier sauce.
  6. Strain: If you’re using raspberries, consider straining the seeds using a fine-mesh strainer to achieve a smooth, silky sauce. Be sure to press all the raspberry pulp through firmly, as that thickens the sauce.
