This Key Lime Shrimp is bold, bright, and bursting with flavor! Serve as an appetizer or add as protein to any main meal. It’s an easy, refreshing dish that tastes like summer in every bite!

I love eating out and trying new dishes. I even love going to local grocery stores and trying food from their prepared section. But what I love even more is trying to recreate the dishes that I’ve tried and loved so I can keep on enjoying them. Keeping it real, I can’t afford to eat out every meal or afford food by the pound. Enter this Key Lime Shrimp from Whole Foods. It’s quintessential Florida flavors with the key lime juice, and using pre-cooked shrimp makes it a quick and easy go-to appetizer and/or main protein at your meals.

I’m lucky to live in Florida, where fresh seafood is readily available. Some could say I’m spoiled and a bit of a snob, but I prefer to call it one of the perks of living in Florida. It’s important to note that shrimp differ not only in taste but also in quality, depending on how they’re sourced. The Key West Pink shrimp are known for their sweet, tender meat. Key West Pink Shrimp reside in the clean coral sand off of the coast of Key West and result in the perfect shrimp to peel and eat. If the shrimp is on sale, I’ll buy extra, clean them, and freeze them. And I’m really short on time. I even buy the pre-cooked shrimp, so it’s even easier to make this recipe! Trust me, no one wants to be in the kitchen cooking for too long! We want fast and easy recipes that are delicious, and this one fits the bill!

Ingredients: Key Lime Shrimp

  • Shrimp: Use high-quality shrimp, whether that’s the Key West Pink Shrimp or another sustainably sourced shrimp. Additionally, you can opt for the pre-cooked shrimp OR use my method for Easy Shrimp Cocktail (that takes just 3 minutes to cook!).
  • Key Lime juice: Key limes are seasonal and can be harder to find. If you can find them, use them! They are more tart than regular limes and will add a bold citrus punch that makes this shrimp dish stand out!
  • Garlic: If you don’t like garlic, this is probably not the dish for you to make. This dish is LOADED with garlic and helps add a ton of flavor!
  • Cilantro: If you’re one of those people for whom cilantro tastes like soap, this dish is also not for you! It’s loaded with cilantro to once again add a ton of flavor!
  • Extra-Virgin Olive Oil: Add just a little to help create a marinade with the key lime juice, but not too much to overpower it.

How To Make Key Lime Shrimp

  1. Whisk the olive oil, key lime juice, cilantro, and garlic. *see notes*
  2. Toss the shrimp in the marinade to coat them and allow them to sit for at least 10 minutes.  Continue to shake every 2 minutes.
  3. Serve immediately as an appetizer or as your main protein dish at your meal!

This Key Lime Shrimp is bold, bright, and bursting with flavor! Serve as an appetizer or add as protein to any main meal. It’s an easy, refreshing dish that tastes like summer in every bite!

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 1x

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 pound cooked, peeled, and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1/8 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup key lime juice

Instructions

  1. Whisk the olive oil, key lime juice, cilantro, and garlic. *see notes*
  2. Toss the shrimp in the marinade to coat it and allow it to sit for at least 10 minutes.  Continue to shake every 2 minutes.
  3. Serve immediately as an appetizer or as your main protein dish at your meal!

Notes

*You can also mix the marinade together and ‘marinate’ the shrimp 10 minutes prior to eating. I did this for my lunches during the week when I was recipe-testing. If you keep the shrimp in the marinade for up to 3 days, it will make them tougher, which, if you’ve had the one from Whole Foods, does taste tough.  So, learn from me and do it the right way!

*I found that using more key lime juice than olive oil was the best option. Key lime juice is tart and flavorful, and if you use more olive oil than key lime juice, it won’t shine through!
