This creamy peanut sauce is one of those recipes you’ll want to keep on repeat. It’s rich, flavorful, and comes together in minutes with simple pantry staples. Whether you drizzle it over noodles, use it as a dip for veggies, or spoon it onto grain bowls, it adds a delicious punch of flavor to just about anything.
I originally whipped up this peanut sauce to go with my shrimp spring rolls, which, honestly, have been all I want to eat lately thanks to the summer heat. Light, refreshing, and perfect for dipping! But after one bite, I knew this peanut sauce needed to go beyond just spring rolls. Now I’m thinking noodle dishes, grain bowls, stir-fries… the options are endless. It’s quickly become a staple in my kitchen!
Peanuts pack a powerful nutritional punch, making this sauce a tasty and nourishing addition to your meals. They’re a great source of plant-based protein, heart-healthy fats, and essential nutrients like magnesium, vitamin E, and niacin. The healthy fats help keep you full and satisfied, while the protein supports muscle maintenance and blood sugar balance. Adding a peanut-based sauce to your dish is a flavorful way to boost both taste and nutrition in every bite.
Ingredients: Easy Peanut Sauce
- Creamy Peanut Butter: Use peanut butter made from peanuts and a pinch of salt, avoiding those with added sugar and oils whenever possible. Additionally, this recipe could be made with almond butter, cashew butter, or sunflower seed butter. Keep in mind what the end dish will be to see if it pairs well, as the flavors will change slightly.
- Low-Sodium Soy Sauce: This adds a rich, savory, umami flavor to the sauce. Use low-sodium to decrease the total sodium for the sauce. Keep in mind that while this sauce may appear to have more sodium than others, this is something to consider when preparing the whole dish for the total sodium in the dish and not just the sauce.
- Rice Vinegar: The acid here helps balance the rest of the sauce. You can also use lime juice if you don’t have rice vinegar. Avoid rice vinegars with added flavors; opt for just the plain.
- Sesame Oil: adds smoothness and helps emulsify the ingredients. You could use grapeseed oil or canola oil; however, the sesame oil adds a nutty flavor to the sauce.
- Maple Syrup: optional, but just this small amount does help balance the flavors out.
- Water: You’ll add more or less depending on the desired consistency. Water alone makes this sauce creamy!
- Sriracha (hot sauce): add as little or as much as you like to bring the heat! You can use red pepper flakes, too, instead of sriracha.
- Ginger: Use fresh ginger if you have it on hand, although ground ginger can work too!

How To Make Easy Peanut Sauce
- In a medium bowl, add the peanut butter, soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, and sesame oil.
- Whisk until smooth, then slowly add warm water, 1 tablespoon at a time, to thin the sauce to your desired consistency.
- Add ginger (freshly grated or minced). Whisk again to combine.
- Taste and adjust—add more soy sauce for saltiness, rice vinegar for brightness, or a touch more sweetener if needed.
- Optional: Stir in a pinch of red pepper flakes or a few drops of sriracha if you want some heat.
- Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. Stir before using.
I used a whisk to bring the ingredients together. As you add in 1 tablespoon of water at a time, four tablespoons equals 1/4 cup. The thickness of the sauce depends on how much water you add. You could also mix this in a food processor or with an immersion blender.
Serving Suggestions
